Excessive Sweating (Hyperhydrosis)
Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, is a condition that causes you to sweat profusely in certain situations. This sweating can occur in the hands, armpits or feet and can be triggered by many different conditions such as underlying medical problems or environmental factors.
There are different types of excessive sweating problems that are usually caused by different underlying factors. The hereditary form of the condition begins in childhood while other forms can be caused by medications you take or medical conditions and begins in adulthood. Some conditions that can result in excessive sweating include heart disease, cancer, stroke, hyperthyroidism, menopause and infectious diseases such as tuberculosis or HIV. The condition is also is a common side effect of antidepressants such as well.
Excessive sweating can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing, especially when it contributes to body odour. If you have been sweating profusely for at least six months with no apparent trigger, you may be suffering from excessive sweating.
Excessive sweating treatment at OptiVein
At OptiVein, we can treat excessive sweating with a Botox injection. Botox is a neurotoxin made from the microbes that cause botulism, and this can help block the nerves that activate your sweat glands. Though your nerves activate your sweat glands to regulate your body temperature, these glands are generally overactive in people who experience excessive sweating.
We will administer Botox injections directly into the area of your body that commonly sweats. This will paralyze the nerves present at that particular site and won’t affect sweating in other parts of your body. Botox injections, however, need to be repeated 2-3 a year for effective results.
